2. Greybeard says: January 18, 2011 at 8:46 am (Edit) Thanks JJ for posting the questions page! I will ask this question again here… My question is about false prophets. I myself have concluded that the GB falls into that category. The false prophets that Jesus warned us about. I am not sure about all the JW followers of witch many of my family are (wife/kids/father/brother). Are the followers of the GB/JW-org false prophets as well or are they missguided lost sheep. I would like to think they are lost sheep. Thank you. Greybeard Greybeard(Quote) Reply
3. andrew says: January 18, 2011 at 12:35 pm (Edit) Hi Jon I appreciate your question. Please be advised I can only give my opinion on these matters, others may come to a different conclusion. Some may believe there are two periods of 3 1/2 years making up the Great Tribulation. Many see in Rev 11 that the two prophets prophesy for 1260 days and then the beast wars with them for another period of 42 months and so the period is 7 yrs. My opinion on the matter is that this time period is the same. As the 2 prophets are prophesying the beast is waging war on them. We must understand that the book of Daniel similarly talks of this period of time and it mentions only one period of 3 1/2 years. This time period is still in the future. How far in the future is anyone’s guess. Jesus let us know we will be unable to calculate the day and hour of his return. andrew(Quote) Reply
4. Greybeard says: January 19, 2011 at 10:12 am (Edit) I have so many questions that I ponder. I will do my best to not overwhelm this blog. My second question is, are Jehovah’s Witness’s apart of Babylon the Great? As we know Gods people are told to “get out of her”. I personally believe that they are. I believe Babylon the Great is any organization or group that is in opposition to Jehovah Gods will. The JW’s, by replacing Christ Jesus as our mediator and head of the congregation, are in direct conflict with Gods will. They focus on directing people to the organization instead of Christ Jesus. It is true they do not celebrate holidays or practice customs the feel originated in Babylon. However is this not like “Straining out the nat and gulping down the camel? If the try to unify everyone and control everyone in a dictatorial way what makes them any different from any other leader on Earth including Nimrod himself? That is MHO. Thank you, Greybeard Greybeard(Quote) Reply * andrew says: January 19, 2011 at 11:21 am (Edit) Greybeard, my feeling on the matter is the JWs are part of Christendom, the same as the baptists, Methodists, Catholics etc. The religion of the witnesses has certain strengths and certain weaknesses. Other churches have different strengths and different weaknesses. The JWs along with all christian denominations are part of the net that is cast in the world that Jesus mentions in Matt. 13:47-49. There are good “fish” that the JWs have caught and there are worthless ones. Babylon the Great is the sum of all the fish caught, also the totality of the planted field of Jesus illustration also in Matt. 13. The fact that a voice must call out God’s people from Babylon the Great lets us know that at this time the vast majority of true christians are within Babylon the Great and will need to be called out. That call-out is still a future event. So at this time it is not required that a christian leave a certain denomination. He need only walk in Jesus’ footsteps. andrew(Quote) Reply
5. Jon says: January 25, 2011 at 7:03 am (Edit) Have a question. If Jesus died for our sins and we are forgiven. why then is death the atonement for sin? The JWs teach both ways. Which is it, Jesus death or our own death, that forgives us? Jon(Quote) Reply * andrew says: January 25, 2011 at 9:14 am (Edit) Death, I believe, is not an atonement for sin. It does not wipe the slate clean. Romans 6:7 has been misunderstood by the JWs. Compare following texts and see what conclusion you come to: Matt. 12:36,37 ; Rom 2:5-8 ; 2 Cor. 5:10 ; Heb 9:27 Judgement is one of the main themes of the bible and a foundational teaching (Hebrews 6:2). See also the post “Rom 6:7; Are Sins Wiped Out at Death?” There are many people here who disagree with me, so study these texts and keep an open mind to differing views. andrew(Quote) Reply
6. serein says: January 29, 2011 at 4:28 pm (Edit) my question is why in 1 peter,1:20 does it say he was chosen befor the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.does this mean god new we was gona sin?why was he chosen? to redeem us, but from what? if we were perfect, comon guys help me on this one im stuck. serein(Quote) Reply * andrew says: January 29, 2011 at 5:29 pm (Edit) Some would take the view that yes, God foreknew that Adam and Eve would sin and had already chosen a Redeemer. Others would say that the “foundation of the world” refers to the first ones born, which would be Cain and Abel. This way one can say after Adam sinned but before any children were born to him, God chose Jesus to be man’s Redeemer. Which theory is correct? I just don’t know. andrew(Quote) Reply * JJ says: January 29, 2011 at 9:11 pm (Edit) I feel that by saying Jesus was “chosen before the founding of the world” is strengthens the argument that he is God’s solution to what happened in Eden. Hyperbole, an exaggeration to prove a point, is often used in the Greek Scriptures. If it was preordained that puts the Creator in the position of planning it or making it all happen the way it did and a God of love and justice wouldn’t do that IMO. The problem arose- Our heavenly father chose his Son to fix it. JJ(Quote) Reply

9. Dennis says: January 30, 2011 at 1:02 pm (Edit) Maybe you brothers and sisters can share your view regarding the translation of “kurios” in Jude 1:5. Most bibles translate this as Jesus or Lord. The NWT uses Jehovah. They site 4-5 16th to 19th century and a couple of 20th century translations as precedence. I think it is probably best translated Jesus or Lord (meaning Jesus) and pictures his pre-human work alongside his father in the affairs of ancient Israel. I view the NWT in this instance, as biased in support of their non-trinitarian stance (which of course I agree with) and as an example of their going to far in trying to get the divine name in the New Testament (I personally think NT use of the divine name should be limited to OT quotes where the name appears). Any thoughts? Dennis(Quote) Reply * andrew says: January 30, 2011 at 8:44 pm (Edit) I agree Dennis andrew(Quote) Reply

12. serein says: February 11, 2011 at 4:17 am (Edit) i understand them to mean what they say, which is its not the literal children in israel but actualy the children that follow him from the heart and out of all the nations not just one,but i dont mean that in my question, i mean will there be a goverment set up by jehovah in israel with the ancient worthys at the head and because thats the area they came from that theyl go back to that place and rule over the earth as jesus rules in heaven as there guide and we shall look to israel for that reason,as im starting to beleive that althoe 14400 are chosen out of the earth to be kings with jesus also the ancients will be with us on earth, also when it says in rev that 14400 are taken to be kings and preasts it dosnt say no one else will go heaven it juts says that many are chosen to be preasts and kings which to me means both are seperate jobs in heaven,or on earth as it does say rule apon the earth in most translations and only a few saying over the earth,im unsure of what im learning at the moment and im praying im on the right path and if not for jehovah to guide me,i think others will go heaven to,so alot of stuff the bible students does sound good to me the only one im finding hard to grasp and dont know if i want to is the pyramid thought, i feel at the moment that when the end comes that the ancient worthys will come the corupt goverments will fall and as well in israel and that the people of israel and every were else in the world will see them for who they realy are and follow there guidence into the new sistem of things, serein(Quote) Reply * andrew says: February 13, 2011 at 7:25 pm (Edit) There is some evidence that the New Jerusalem will literally descend to earth. Perhaps it will literally occupy the old promised land, the latter chapters of Ezekiel may seem to hint at this. I really don’t know a lot about the bible students other than what has been written by some on this site. Just know that they, along with everybody else, do not have the full truth. It might help your spiritual progress to be associated with them, then again it may not. You will have to decide. Please remember serein that understanding biblical prophesy is not essential to gain God’s approval. If we can simply do the things that Jesus mentioned on the Sermon on the Mount we will be doing very well. andrew(Quote) Reply
13. JJ says: February 15, 2011 at 9:58 pm (Edit) A brother I’ve been friends with for years and served on the body with when I was in another area stopped going to meetings for about 10 months and they finally just deleted him. I’ve invited him for lunch and I am trying to figure out how to brooch the situation. There is obviously much I’d like to know and ask him. Could I just say “did you do the fade?” and see what he says? It seems like a tricky meeting but I’ve got to try. Any advice? JJ(Quote) Reply * andrew says: February 16, 2011 at 5:11 pm (Edit) There are many reasons a JW might stop going to meetings. Many who are inactive believe whole heartedly in the organization they may have simply become discouraged or depressed. You probably want to discreetly get him to open up before you admit to anything yourself. If he is trying to fade though he may be hesitant to talk about why if he thinks you are still a devoted follower of the organization. It is tricky tightrope you’ll have to walk. Let us know how it goes. andrew(Quote) Reply

19. susanna says: March 1, 2011 at 11:02 am (Edit) Hi serein Just checked in here , I know by now you have found some satisfying remarks but thought I’d throw in my two cents if their worth anything Here’s the way I see it/ Jehovah created all , according to its KIND. Genesis 1:24 (New King James Version) reads Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. >>>>>>>>> Even Adam & Eve. I assume they were dark ,being created in the mid-east, yet Adam held the all the Human races in his loins. . Every tribe, nation and tongue can be traced back to our first parents. The same with the animals. Take a cat or a dog and trace its ancestry , they alone are many, many , different breeds We wouldn’t end up with a cat or a dog to begin with. So that would eliminate a lot of non existing off spring at that time. I really don’t know which BIG cat or wolf they came from, but please do share. Was it a wolf ? Anyone ! Then the measurements of the ark and it having three stories , shows the ark was huge / All the blue print for that Ark is found in Gen 6 th chapter. I’m not the best in math, so maybe someone can help out here. Have we ever seen a accurate blue print of the ark before it was made other then recorded in the Bible ? The important thing as Paul would put it We are walking by Faith , not by sight. Not everyone can do this. Even the USA courts use some of the laws recorded By Jehovah, Which goes along with 2Tim 3:16 (NKJV ) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, also Jesus in prayer to his Father told Him “Your Word is Truth”, that would include Jesus himself whom the scripture call the,”” Word of God.” John 17:17 Only speaking for myself . love susanna susanna(Quote) Reply
20. Jon says: March 12, 2011 at 12:42 pm (Edit) how will we know when the horses begin to ride? Or will we know? Jon(Quote) Reply * andrew says: March 12, 2011 at 4:47 pm (Edit) Hi Jon I assume you are talking about Rev. chap 6. My opinion is that vs. 12 which says “Then I saw Him open the sixth seal. A violent earthquake occurred; the sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair; the entire moon became like blood” corresponds to Matt. 24:29 – “Immediately after the tribulation of those days: The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not shed its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the celestial powers will be shaken.” My current thinking is that Rev. 6:1 refers to Christ’s enthronement shortly after ascending to heaven. The horsemen would represent what we have seen since then, wars, famines, etc. which would continue until Jesus’ return in vs. 12. I have read other interpretations of these verses that would also make sense. andrew(Quote) Reply

Jon(Quote) Reply * andrew says: March 14, 2011 at 8:16 am (Edit) I currently view it pretty close to how the Society views it, as a religious harlot. The call to get out of BTG lets us know that God’s people are in her, and that would make sense since most Christians are part of a religious org. or church. There are problems with this view however, and I have to say I’m not sure this identification of BTG is correct. andrew(Quote) Reply

24. bruceguth says: March 20, 2011 at 6:43 pm (Edit) Here is a question: It has to do with timing again. There used to be consideration over 7 equal-in-length creative days, and 6000 years since Adam was created would come out to our recent past. Then it dawned on Fred Franz that Eve was the last creation of the 6th creative day, and not Adam. It seems the subject was pretty-well dropped around that time. So there was no more aparent speculation on how long it was from Adam’s creation until Eve’s, except that Gen. 3:23 in the NWT says Adam then said “at last, bone of my bone…”. So it must have been “some time”, until the end of the 6th day. So the question is really this: Does any of this lend itself well in determing a closer proximity in answering when the millenial reign begins? bruceguth(Quote) Reply * andrew says: March 20, 2011 at 9:16 pm (Edit) Hi bruce; My opinion would be no. As you said it is only extreme speculation that led Franz to 1975. There is no proof that all the creative days were equal in length nor that they were 7000 yrs. long. Seeing as we cannot know the day or hour it is, in my opinion useless to try to determine when the millenial reign will begin. We can only be ready for whenever Jesus may return. andrew(Quote) Reply o bruceguth says: March 20, 2011 at 9:45 pm (Edit) The thought in the sixties and 70s was that “the end” isn’t so far away, and I know it’s been that way for a long, long time. But there was a valid point, about the appearance of things around us. For example, you discuss here conditions within an organization which point to the “man of lawlessness”. I was in LA that night for a “special” one night assembly (circa 1981) when Franz arrived at the fact that it was Eve who was the last recorded creation of the 6th day. I see we have some sharp minds here on this site, no flattery intended. Seems as though the fall of Babylon date is important, right? Why not compare the accuracy of what is now known concerning where we are in the timestream of the history of humanity? With the Bible’s emphasis on the number 7, it seems like a worthy question. 25. JJ says: March 20, 2011 at 11:04 pm (Edit) Daniel With respect, I feel like getting into calculations and numbers is what got “us” (As in JWs) into some of the troubles we are in in the first place. Jesus said no man knows the day or the hour. Maybe he wants us to just be ready and concentrate on the fruits of the spirit and loving our fellow and encouraging one another? Lately that’s a full time job for me! JJ(Quote) Reply
26. bruceguth says: March 21, 2011 at 10:25 am (Edit) OK JJ. Good enough for me. Just thought I would follow your suggestion on the discussion, (copied/pasted): ________________________ Dan it’s been years since I’ve heard that… The old SI book used to date things that way but I honestly don’t know a lot about the reasoning behind it. Perhaps on the “questions” page you could share that as a comment/question. JJ ______________________ You say: “Jesus said no man knows the day or the hour. Maybe he wants us to just be ready and concentrate on the fruits of the spirit and loving our fellow and encouraging one another? Lately that’s a full time job for me!” And Jesus himself didn’t know back then. Some think perhaps as we get closer we can have a feel for a range of time. This isn’t necessary though, just interesting as we watch for it. It may very well be that we will be a bit surprised since it comes as a thief in the night, but we will know the season. So in the meantime, Jesus (not “maybe”) surely would like us to concentrate on the fruits of the spirit and loving our fellow and encouraging one another. Hebrews 10:25, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11. Remember that we can eagerly wait. 1Corinthians 1:7 Christian love… Daniel bruceguth(Quote) Reply
27. Jon says: March 21, 2011 at 8:18 pm (Edit) I am many times very discourage that we are not allowed to know the timing. Some days I feel it is close , other days far away. 28. bruceguth says: March 22, 2011 at 1:54 am (Edit) The very best and most comforting thoughts are found by opening up the Holy Scriptures to their many descriptions of these times ahead of us. It’s exciting, and faith strengthening brothers. We find them in Acts 2, the Pauline letters, through John and God’s Prophets of old. But in particular, the words of our Master Messiah draw us close to him. Very comforting indeed! bruceguth(Quote) Reply
29. serein says: March 28, 2011 at 2:56 pm (Edit) ok read this then ggive me ur opinions cos if jehovah isnt the true name of god then we should not be using it at all. Pronouncing the Name of God Nothing in the Torah prohibits a person from pronouncing the Name of God. Indeed, it is evident from scripture that God’s Name was pronounced routinely. Many common Hebrew names contain “Yah” or “Yahu,” part of God’s four-letter Name. The Name was pronounced as part of daily services in the Temple. The Mishnah confirms that there was no prohibition against pronouncing The Name in ancient times. In fact, the Mishnah recommends using God’s Name as a routine greeting to a fellow Jew. Berakhot 9:5. However, by the time of the Talmud, it was the custom to use substitute Names for God. Some rabbis asserted that a person who pronounces YHVH according to its letters (instead of using a substitute) has no place in the World to Come, and should be put to death. Instead of pronouncing the four-letter Name, we usually substitute the Name “Adonai,” or simply say “Ha-Shem” (lit. The Name). Although the prohibition on pronunciation applies only to the four-letter Name, Jews customarily do not pronounce any of God’s many Names except in prayer or study. The usual practice is to substitute letters or syllables, so that Adonai becomes Adoshem or Ha-Shem, Elohaynu and Elohim become Elokaynu and Elokim, etc. With the Temple destroyed and the prohibition on pronouncing The Name outside of the Temple, pronunciation of the Name fell into disuse. Scholars passed down knowledge of the correct pronunciation of YHVH for many generations, but eventually the correct pronunciation was lost, and we no longer know it with any certainty. We do not know what vowels were used, or even whether the Vav in the Name was a vowel or a consonant. See Hebrew Alphabet for more information about the difficulties in pronouncing Hebrew. Some religious scholars suggest that the Name was pronounced “Yahweh,” but others do not find this pronunciation particularly persuasive. Some people render the four-letter Name as “Jehovah,” but this pronunciation is particularly unlikely. The word “Jehovah” comes from the fact that ancient Jewish texts used to put the vowels of the Name “Adonai” (the usual substitute for YHVH) under the consonants of YHVH to remind people not to pronounce YHVH as written. A sixteenth century German Christian scribe, while transliterating the Bible into Latin for the Pope, wrote the Name out as it appeared in his texts, with the consonants of YHVH and the vowels of Adonai, and came up with the word JeHoVaH, and the name stuck. serein(Quote) Reply

31. Amos says: April 6, 2011 at 9:23 pm (Edit) A question that I’ve considered for some time, & have only got very limp answers to. “Why are we so concerned regarding the 6000 years of mans history?” AND, “Why do we think that YHWH must act precisely at this time?” How I see it, these are man’s thoughts & not God’s….it is man’s way of trying to predict something that they have little knowledge of, regardless how long we have been studying God’s Word. I have just turned to Daniel 12, please read the entire chapter AND then meditate on V’s 4, 8-13. I have just made a startling discovery (that may be nothing). Without my giving anything away, lets see if someone else sees what I have just seen….it is with regard to the length of time & when it began. It could be that it has 2 fulfillments, one with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. and one during the Great Tribulation against the saints. Vs. 7 mentions again the 3 1/2 times of oppression for the saints. Vs. 11 and 12 mention 1290 days and 1335 days which would be 30 days and 75 days longer than the 3 1/2 yrs of oppression. These extra days must point to something, but I’m not sure what. andrew(Quote) Reply

33. Amos says: April 10, 2011 at 5:46 am (Edit) Hi Andrew, It’s a very lengthy discussion of the subject, so I’ll paraphrase it somewhat, & mind you these are just mussings on my part….not setting dates or anything else. 1) Jerusalem was originally occupied by Babylon, in the year 606 BC. This is when Daniel & his companions, & the other royalty & nobles were taken captive. (I know this is contradictory to what the WTS teaches, but is very easily proven by both chronology & secular history). Jerusalem was not actually destroyed until 587/586 BC. 2) If we count 1290 years (a day for a year) from 606 BC, this brings us to 685 AD, allowing for the correction between BC/AD. What happened at this time? (685 AD) The establishment of the Islamic Dome of the rock, in the Temple (courtyard of the Gentiles). Daniel 12:11; “And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.” 3) 1335 years from 685 AD will end….2020. There are many views concerning these verses, some even look to the time when the Maccabees broke the grip of Antiochus, & freed Jerusalem. Some food for thought. Amos(Quote) Reply

Just as a side point, if we then add the 1260 years to 688, we come to 1948, the year of independance for Israel. Amos(Quote) Reply Leave a Reply Cancel reply Logged in as JJ . Log out? Hi Amos
Thanks for your study on this portion of Daniel. Personally I usually don’t look for specific dates in the bible. It reminds me too much of the JWs. Although, others without dogmatically insisting on the validity of their interpretations find that this helps them keep close in mind Jesus’ return.

    Hi Andrew,
Thank’s for your reply, & I totally agree with you, & this is why I said; “I’ll paraphrase it somewhat, & mind you these are just mussings on my part….not setting dates or anything else.”

I have realized the folly of date setting, & find these events seem to fit into the times as mentioned. What I have posted is a very condensed & brief outline from a book that I read about twelve months ago, there is much more involved, including the position where the Dome was built….this is also a fulfillment of the prophecy in Rev. concerning the “courtyard of the gentiles”.

All I’m saying is that it is a very interesting coincidence, & it may be a posibility.

    Amos
