2 Timothy 3:16&17, “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,  that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.” If you were “fully competent ” and “completely equipped” to go camping would you need anything else? Maybe a camping booklet on safety or how to cook outdoors? If so then you were not “completely equipped” were you. You wouldn’t need anything if you were “completely equipped” would you?  The Apostle Paul here is saying that all a Christian needs is the scriptures and he is “completely equipped” for “every good work”.  But wait, the “slave” says we can’t understand the Bible without the Watchtower and Awake. They say the Bible is a closed book to all others and they are the only ones who can understand it. They say we need more than what Paul said. We need all their books and booklets to be “completely equipped”.   “Only this organization functions for Jehovah’s purpose and to his praise. To it alone God’s Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book” (Watchtower July 1 1973, pg 402).  Does that make any sense to you?

    It seems when you add unnecessary things the Bible’s relatively simple message begins to get lost. Why do we need millions of pieces of literature that most householders don’t even read? If we eliminated all that literature we could get rid of all those Bethel branches and equipment. Just think if we sold all the Kingdom Halls and began meeting in private homes. If we sold all those CO’s cars. Just imagine if we used that money to help the widows and orphans of the world. Then we would be closer to true Christianity.

    (Luke 12:33,34) “Sell the things belonging to you and give gifts of mercy. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, a never-failing treasure in the heavens, where a thief does not get near nor moth consumes. For where your treasure is, there your hearts will be also.”

      Agreed. If that were to take place though then the guys at the top couldn’t control the flock. Oh, they would also have to get a real job!

    I agree with you Andrew. They should sell everything and meet in homes. Give to the poor. Most of them are poor.

      I do believe this was the method recomended by Jesus, & implemented by the first century church. (by church, I mean the congregations of the saints, not a denomination)

      This reminds me of the verses at Matt.19:16-22;
      16 “And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”
      17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
      18 Then he said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS;
      19 HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER; and YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”
      20 The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”
      21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
      22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.”
